Very pleased to be joining Ferenc Hörcher & the Eötvös József Research Centre at the Ludovika tomorrow for a brief lecture & conversation on “A New (& Old) Reading of the Political Death of Jesus”. What is H. S. Reimarus’s theory of it, & why do I side with Immanuel Kant against him?
(Reimarus is of course ancient history in New Testament studies; but theologians have forgotten, & philosophers seem to have never known, that Kant critiques Reimarus in a very interesting note – a philosophical note – in his iconic, 1792 Religion-book.)
