In case we’ve forgotten that Gaspar Fernandes (d. 1629) was composing lush Baroque music in 17th-century Guatemala & Mexico. Notably, his “Xicochi conetzintle” – a sacred lullaby – is in Nahuatl, the language of the Nahua people.
